I UNDERstand that in win98 one can rectify missing or corrupt .ocx and .dll files by running the SFC command in a DOS window.
i use winnt40 and this suggested solution for getting these missing and/or corrupted files back simply does not work.
does anyone have a workaround for this prob in winnt40 workstation?
TIA to one and all

If you know what files are corrupted then you can just copy them over from the I386 directory from the CD. For the most part NT works or your reinstalling.

thank you for this suggestion. now, i may be wrong but i do not think that it is as simple as that.... alas. my hunch is that the two files concerned are those from a previous installatiion of ie.x, where x is a figure less than 5.
i tried re-installing ie 55 several times but the corrupt or missing file does not show up. in other words, it is an ie5 prob., NOT a specific NT one. the secondary prob. [ for me at least] is that a suggested work round, viz., 'run SFC COMMAND (or SFC WIZARD) in DOS screen' will not work in NT because THAT o/s does not recognise what is, in fact, an Win98 command.
i hope this is clear, even if somewhat convoluted. moreover, it's just my [very imperfect] understanding of my problem.
