View Full Version : XP New Hardware Question
Neighbor just bought a new HP comp. and it came with XP Home Edition. He got a Lexmark printer for it as well. Running the Printer off the USB cable instead of parallel, its now installed fine and working. BUT, everytime you reboot it Windows XP reports that it is finding new hardware (the Lexmark printer). Even if I let it go through and try and find drivers for it, the next time it boots same thing. Have to close the new hardware balloon 3 times at every boot for the stupid printer. Any ideas?

thanks for the link uod2001. have to try a couple things I found when i go over there next.
Zmoney, slightly different here. It doesn't keep rebooting itself, once you close the balloon 3 times everything is fine. Printer works and all. Just is really annoying having to go through this everytime he boots.
thanks guys

I'd say, to check lexmarks site for the model of the printer, see if there's any new XP compatible drivers for it, also run www.windowsupdate.com too...
try booting up the computer with the USB for the printer unplugged...let the computer boot up fully...then plug the USB printer in....it should detect it, and install normally. try to print a test page to make sure.
Then make sure everything is OK in the device manager.
Right click my computer - properties - Hardware Tab - Device manager, if you didn't know.
if that's good, then reboot, hopefully it wont happen again.
