Just installed win2000 Pro.

This is a post from Norm to remove shortcut arrows....

1.Open RegEdit
2.Open the Key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
3.Open the Key LNKFILE
4.Delete the value IsShortcut
5.Open the next Key PIFFILE
6.Delete the value IsShortcut
7.Restart Windows

So here's the problem. In each of the two settings (LNKFILE, PIFFILE) there is something else called "Never show ext".
I figured that if I remove this along with "IsShortcut" I would remove all arows on icons and all "shortcut text" extensions. But when I rebooted all the Icons had the arrows missing, which was fine, but all the shortcuts still said "shortcut to...."

Did I do something wrong by removing this?
How do I replace them if I did do something wrong?
And last how do I remove the extension "shortcut to" in all shortcut icons?

Thanks, Nuc

The method you used is for win98, not sure if it works in 2k

You could find TweakUI and install it, then on one of the tabs in that proggie you can do what you want, and lots more.

Thanks Norm but did I do anything wrong by removing those registry values called " never show ext"?

It won't hurt anything I don't think. I can't remember the extention shortcuts use, but they are similar to IE shortcuts, IE uses the extention lnk for links (other shortcuts may use the same, not sure and don't feel like searching it down right now) By removing what you did, you may see the extention for shortcuts now. Big deal, right?

You know by now I have no sympathy for people that don't do backups when editing the registry. :D

Nuke, since you are new to Win2K, have a look through, and do searches in the help files for learning lots of things. Those help files are awesome.
