I can't find anything out about it but a few of my friends(one being the IT Director at my work) have told me that by Dec. there will be no more bandwidth sharing due to new software. Can this be true ?? That would be a dream for cable users.

there will always be a sharing of bandwidth on cable because of the nature of the system

perhaps your friends are talking about DOCSIS 1.1 which will allow the MSOs to control QOS/TOS which means they can allocate bandwith to specific users (and charge them accordingly)

so you could have 256 upstream while your next door neighbor has only 128

you could also run a server (and pay for it) and not have to worry about saturating your neighbors upstream because the MSO would be able to control the bandwidth

this is really more geared to VOIP and SOHO so docsis 1.1 will get to residential markets later than business areas

docsis 1.1 is still a long way off for most users in residential areas:cool:  :2cool:   :rotfl:  :)

I'm happy with my 2.5mbps. I'm not greedy just wondering if it's true.

Actually guys and ladies there are at least two companies working on dedicated virtual links over cable. One that I read about was called Advent something and I can not remember the name of the other. They both are working 40Mbs dedicated links(slobber, slobber, drool, drool) for cable customers. When I locate the links I will post them but the technology was in the field trail stage this past summer.Kind of expensive to implement from what I remember something like $3,000 per customer. So even when its ready it may be awhile before companies start offering it.
