I am using Sprint DSL service, and was wondering how I can set up my connection without using the included software (ie: WinPoet)?

I know how to set up a new connection using Dialup Networking for Dialup, but what about DSL.

From what I can see, you have to mess with the Networking Adapters and stuff.

Can someone give me a step by step format for setting this up? ie: drivers, adapters, dialup.... etc.

I have an external dsl modem connected to the ethernet card.
Win98SE at the moment, but will install WinME soon.

Thanks all.... :)

If your ISP requires PPPoE to log on, you either have to use a PPPoE package (like Enternet 300, or WinPoet, etc), or emulate it with a router that supports PPPoE in it's firmware.

huh... Okay, how do I do that?

Can't I just set up the pppoe adapter in network settings without installing the full software, and then set up a dailup connection?

WinPoet basically is Dial-up Networking. The closest to DUN is RASPPPoE, you may prefer to go with that software. very small, no fancy feature, nice and clean. If so, see my site listed below for the download files and a how to.

If you don't want to use the software. Then just get a router that supports PPPoE. It will automically connect for you without you having to worry about WinPoet. I myself have no problems with PPPoE since I'm used to it already.

RASPPPoE is almost invisible and I believe I have an always on connection because I never have to click "Connect" or type my username and password... EVER! Only once, thats when setting it up.

For more info on an Always On connection for PPPoE check my PPPoE Guide, link's in my sig.
