I have a cable 3com modem, and the speed is ok so far.... nothing great, however...

After doing a few tracert's in dos.. my first HOP is like 340ms 280ms. 310ms. THE FIRST HOP!!!!!!!

from my modem to the computer??? =///

I called Time Warner and they have no clue... sending someone out if I can't fix this... I know after reading this forum today that the people here are 20 times more intelligent than anyone I talked to for 4 hours on the phone today...

An example of how bad the latency is.... ping time on anygame is around 500 AT BEST,, spiking to 13000 ...

Now I understand you can't improve latency getting your ping from 100 to 50 ..... but this.....??

I've used dslreports.com and the tweaktest,, switched things with DrTcp... nothing helps =//

Any idea? I greatly appreciate any responses in advance... thank you,

p.s For lobo..... I hope this is what you meant...

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 75920
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 1 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 37960
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 3036.8 kbps (379.6 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1214.72 kbps (151.84 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 115 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

Using DR TCP, change RWIN to one of these, remember to select your adapter first (NIC Card) play with it until apply button lites up, click on it and reboot, try: 51100, 513920, 522680, 524176 and why go to a dsl site if you have cable :) :)

Also some info on help thread below in sig

Rwin wasn't helping

I tried a ton of rwin things... even other combo's with Time Stamping... window scaling.. ect... =/

Just backed up registry... so I'm going to try all night to do things... I haven't put any patches on at all yet,,

any one I should try first.... =/

I only went to dslreports.com for the tools they have... =) they also have cable forum... but people here seem to know a lot also.

I have a feeling that it's a hardware problem because if your ISP advertises 3000kbps down and you're getting much less than half of that, then something's wrong. Symtoms might be be your NIC (Network Interface Card), modem, CAT5 cables(s), etc.

Did a technician from your ISP come to your house to install the hardware or did you do it yourself?

Find out the exact name of your NIC.
Find out if that modem is compatible with your ISP.
Try a speed test...

Thanks Mikey for a response... yes the guy came out and installed everything... I installed the simple software.. I'm not on a NIC card right now, I am using the USB port, because I'm switching NIC cards right now.... however the USB port which was used before I moved worked fine... and should cause latency of 250... =/ THe best speed test I got was at about 3 am the first night and it was 2100 down/380 up... which is fine..... I'd be content with that speed...

but not the 400 ms from my computer to my modem... =/ that latency sorta sucks..... lol.....

Thanks guys for the responses I really appreciate it.

Go find the newest drivers for your eqipment, Modems and stuff. You should find it on the companies' website.:)

Thanks ExtraCrispy it was a good idea, but the drivers that came with it don't seem to be updated too much.....

it gave me a .sys file and a ini to install which I did on both, yet it still seems about the same =///

Thanks everyone for different ideas, I'm trying cablenut and different things now...

 :(
