oh my...can someone please help me here...
i'm currently subscribed to pacbell for DSL and using the given Speedstreem modem connected to a D-Link 5 port hub. My apartment has 5 static ip's. We have 4 computers. 2 running Win98, 1 running WinMe, and 1 running Win2k. The win98 and winme computers run fine. However, my computer (the win2k computer) isn't doing so well. Whenever my roommates aren't playing games or downloading, my connection is fine. But when any of them are playing counter strike or everquest or anything like that online, my connection cuts out. Not abruptly though. Having it cut out is really easily done. When they're playing games, all i have to do is download an mp3, or go to a couple of websites, and it'll cut out after about 300k of download (sometimes it goes more, sometimes it goes less). I have my connection set so that i have an icon in my system tray. I have to right click and disable, and then go to network connections and renable my lan connection. Even after i renable it, the same thing happens again. What's strange is when i play games WITH them, it's fine. And it's not just Net traffic that makes my connection go nuts. Even if one of my roommates is streaming an mp3 from another computer, it makes my connection cut out. Does anyone know how to solve his problem?
couple notes to keep in mind:
I recently took out my modem (56k) and it didn't do any good.
Win2k has the most updated drivers for my NIC
I've gone from port 1 to port 2 to port 4 on the hub (port five is reserved for uplink)
I've tried 2 of the IP's already (since we always have 1 to spare)
It only happens to my computer.
I think the computer that effects mine the most is the one running WinMe which is a p3 500. (if that helps)
please help me!!..thanks =) (i've been trying to fix this problem with a month....)
