View Full Version : Problem with Team gaming on Rogue Spear
OK Guys this has been stumping me for ages so I hope you can help. I have a cable connection with my local Telco with 512k/128k up/down. When I first had this service installed it rocked I could host 8-10 players no problem (in Teams). Since a couple of months ago however my hosting capacity has halved.
Since then I've built a LAN behind a Smoothwall Linux firewall in an effort (not only to improve security) to improve my band width. to this end I've been slightly successful as there has been a moderate improvement.
Checking my bandwidth at my telco's ftp server it suggests my data throughput is rarely below 400k/80-90k.
I have a couple of queries:
1. What settings should I be playing with in an attempt to improve performance particularly under Team Survival?
2. Has anyone else experienced similar issues?
3. How can I best optimise performance or this game?
I'd appreciate any help or advice, by the way I'm in Oz so there's no way it can be due to overloading my area cos we just don't have the population to effect it like that.

With a 128k upload you will probably host only 6 at the most before people start bitching about lag :( I'm not sure why you were able to host 8-10 earlier, probably your upload was more than the capped 128k.
A few settings you could do for teams survival is taking the armpatch option off, and don't let anyone use the bound keys a lot, that will eat up bandwidith as well.
RS has horrible net code...
I have same connection and can host maybe 4
try putting check next to lan and behind firewall in rs options, that should help out a bit with hosting

lol thats what my friend did and he can host 16 with his 350 Pent 2.... 8mb vidcard 10 gig hd ..... He said he up was capped at 50 k.... he sends files at 36-40 k and tahts pretty fast....
Those options most likely wont help....... didnt work for me or anyone else.......
Friend with 600 up on test can host 12 while friend with 50-100 can host 16 :)
Seeeeeee weeeeeeird
512/128 is in kilobits
in other words 128 / 8 = 16Kbytes
Now @ 16KB your not gonna host more than 4 - 6 thats most likely going to lag bad...
I played this game for 2 years straight... Even my friend in NYC W/ college T3 900Kbit up cant hold 16 no lag... its the game man...

This game is weird really...... i have a friend on @home cable he can host 16 no lag..... the reason he says his cable co is bad at capping speeds so he has almost uncapped cable.... Others are not so lucky.....
Ping is right i have that exact speed 16 k and i can host about 4-6.

I can only offer a few suggestions since my line is not capped, try playing maps without weather and play a map a few before changing to a new one. These helped out me before I got my line running it's best, I hosted a 12 player game lastnight.
