I'm trying to hook my computer up to my roommates so I can use his floppy drive to get the driver I need for my second network card. I have a network cable going from my network card that works to a hub to his network card. What do we do now so that we can share drives? After this is done I will have the driver I need for the second network card in my computer and I will have the network cable go from that card directly to my buddies network card. The cable modem will connect to my first network card. What will I have to do to get that set up? By the way, we are both running Windows 98 se. Thanks for any help.

First make sure you enable file and print sharing on both comps. Both comps need to be using the same protocol ie TCP/IP. And need to have the same network name ie MSHOME. All this can be found by right clicking network neighborhood. I am a bit confused on what your trying to accomplish with respect to the broadband sharing .

With respect to the sharing of the drive after file sharing is enabled right click on the drive select share then select share as.

I must have read this 15 times before I got what you meant.

Ok connect the cable modem to your system. Download the driver for the nic. Install the driver. After that enable internet connection sharing on your system only. Make the disk that it asks you to make and put into your buds system and follow directions.

Your hardware is going to be something like this, depending on how you set it up.

Without hub, cable modem in to your system(nic 1) (nic 2) to your roomies)you will need crossover cables to connect the systems

with hub just plug them into the hub(standard cable)

Software you will need to enable ISX/SPX and netbeui. This will allow you to see the other systems in your network.

Make sure your workgroup is the same on both systems. Once you can see the other system then right click on the drive you want to share and click sharing.
