Okay, this is really starting to annoy me. I uninstalled all the possible tweak that i have downloaded but i still get a BSOD (still whining about the stupid vxd). I tried to extract the vxd from my win98se cd but no help.

so, anybody have a clue what i have to do? The only moment when it does the bsod is when i try to download something big (about 10 megs). I did the bsod when i tried to do my windows critical updates and download acdsee 4.0.

Need help!

system specs:

pII 400 @ 533
196 ram
tnt2 32 megs
win98se
cable modem (brand: scientific atlanta)

Could you post exactly what the BSOD message says?
What or where did you get your tweak and what were you tweaking?

Here a simple suggestion that often fixes that problem. Simply go through msconfig to system.ini. Then go to 386enh and add the following line:

MinSPS=12

and what does that do ?

I hope this helps explain it:

Q: I get errors on start-up that tell me to increase the MinSPs value in System.ini. What does this mean, and how do I fix it?

A: You probably received the error "There are no spare stack pages. It may be necessary to increase the setting of 'MinSPs' in System.ini to prevent possible stack faults. There are currently xxx SPs allocated."

The term stack pages refers to an area of memory that a 32-bit device driver uses to hold data and instructions as it works. A corrupt or incompatible device driver can overflow the stack and cause errors such as the one you encountered. MinSPs stands for minimum stack pages, which specifies how many 4K blocks of RAM to allocate for device drivers. Windows' default setting allocates one page for device drivers and two spare pages for temporary allocations. Increasing MinSPs gives Windows more temporary space to handle device driver stack overflows. You can change the MinSPs by adding a line to the System.ini file in the Windows folder.

But first, determine which device driver is causing the problem. Typically, it's a VxD file related to a recently installed device. Upgrade that device driver from either your Windows CD or the vendor's Web site. You can also download CNET's CatchUp update utility to help you locate and update drivers and other files. If this doesn't solve the problem, use Windows Notepad to open System.ini. Locate the [386Enh] section and insert a line that allocates more stacks than indicated in the error message. An entry such as MinSPs=8 or MinSPs=16 should provide enough extra stack space.

It is only needed in win9x and I've known it to cut the number of BS's my friends and I experience in half!

Increases the Minimum Stack Pages. Sometimes you get these annoying overflows by not having enough min SP's entered.

This explains it better then I can. (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q149/0/83.asp?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0&qry=What%20are%20stack%20pages%3F&rnk=4&src=DHCS_MSPSS_gn_SRCH&SPR=W98SE)

OTD, your too fast for me. hehe.
You posted twice while I was out looking for the link. :D

thanx for all your suggestion. To answer the question: i am trying to tweak my cable modem (used the speedguide win98 tweaks). I think it's my windows that is all screwed up. My bro told me that i was using a warez version (i found a win98 on a cd that was in the rack so i guessed it was a copy of the original) so i'm gonna format AGAIN my hd and install a real original win98se version. Let's just hope that it's gonna fix the bsod!

Okay, so the whole formatting thing and original CD didn'T work at all (well, the original cd did help for my auto detect thing but that'S another story). I still get the really annoying BSOD when i download really fast (like 300k/sec). I didn'T do any tweaks. I just did a basic install. All that is installed on my computer is Norton Internet SEcurity, PC-Cillin (anti virus) and icq.

There is the BSOD error message:

"An exxception OE has occurred at 0028 C15AA51F in VxD VID (01) + 000026FF. This was called from 0028:C001C344 in VxD NDIS (01) + 000047D0. It may be possible to use normally"

I hope this will help (i don'T understand a thing about the BSOD but i hope somebody out there does understand). I have a USB Scientific Atlanta (the drivers i found on their site is the same as the one on my CD) cable modem.

Luckily I would newer get that errot . Our goverments are to stupid to get isdn so we use dialup and it sucks .
If we dl realy fast we get 6 kb/s and that happens like onece every blue moon . Normal is 2- 3 and normal fast is about 4-5

i tried to change the MinSps but it still doesn't help. I still get the BSOD or the computer just reboots by itself

Is your video sharing an irq with your nic?
Sounds like a hardware problem, or a hardware driver.

Try updating the drivers for your video, update directx to the latest release too.

btw - What type of ram? You aren't using EDO with SDram are you?

it's not the ram prob, i have 100% genuine SDRAM (pc100 +pc133) and there is no irq conflict

The NDIS.VXD error is for your nic card. Try to stick it in an other slot. Update the nic drivers. If its a 3com card go into nic doctor and reset the card to defaults.
