XP does not have netbuei. I've got a 9x box that can see the XP box. Going through a hub. The rest of the network works fine. 1 2k box, 1 XP box and one ME box. the 2K boxs will see the both XP and ME boxs'. The ME box will see both of the other systems. The XP box will not see the ME box

One thing that I should mention...The XP box is NTFS and the other 2 are fat32.

You can install Netbeui on XP, but you have to extract it from the CD-Rom and put it in manually to get it to install. It took me a few days to figure it out myself also. My CD-roms are screwed right now so I can't tell you right now exactly where it is, but if you search for it, you will find it since it's kinda obvious :)

You could use TCP/IP as the network protocol on XP, and the other computers. When you share a drive it asks you to insert a disk that installs files on the other network computers to allow them to see the XP machine. I had to do this, and after I did it, it worked fine.

Why do you need "NetBEUI"? You can have just straight TCP/IP protocol for all of your boxes. Unless you have some computers that are dos based like myself and you don't want to load TCP/IP for them. Maybe if you try to find the files for the NETBEUI protocol from Windows 9x and try to reload them on your XP box?
Just a idea of what I would try, I am wondering why happy Microsoft didn't include NetBEUI? I meen, they made that protocol!Good luck.

Microsoft had some weird logic there...to make NetBEUI an "optional protocol" you have to install from the XP cd.

I mean, look at the explosion of broadband routers and home LANs...where most of us bind only NetBEUI to networking services, leaving TCP/IP unbound from networking for security. It's like NetBEUI is more popular than ever now.

Good thinking Bill !

Actually, I don't see it in RC2.... used to be there in RC1, but my RC2 TechNet CD does not have it. Anyone else find that true, or am I missing something here

Yeah, what's the reason behind dropping it?? So good, clean, and simple for small lans. Way to go again, MS.
