A router shares a WAN IP through a means called NAT...which provides basic hardware firewall protection. NAT is Network Address Translation...which in a nutshell splits up the single WAN IP to a private Class C range of LAN IPs.
However, most routers will support a feature called DMZ...DeMilitarized Zone...which takes a single computer and kinda "hangs it outside the routers firewall"...leaving all ports wide open. So you can have 1 computer wide open on a router.

what should i get then? i'll prolly have 3 comps on the network, and the less firewall the better.
Theres no way to use all 3 comps on a hub with 1 ip is there?
Go with a Netgear, I love mine.
The only way that you could use the hub would be to set 1 of your pc's up as a "server" and put proxy software on there and have 2 nics in it.
The router is a much better way to go though!
