Ok you smart people in here (*note the butter up*):D
I have a Netgear router model# RT311. I am wondering if I can change the MTU value in it. Presently I am in tweak forum trying to tweak the registry. They said maybe check here I have the very latest firmware installed and see no way to set the MTU. I am tcp/ip testing a 1440. I have found a string in my registry that has this value set along with a DLS string and a MaxFrameRate string any help with the router would be helpful :) :) :)

As far as I've seen, there are no configurable settings in that router with respect to MTU. You should check your firmware, there may be an update for it here (http://www.netgear.com/support_main.asp).

Thanks Mos it seems no matter what I do I can't get my MTU above 1440. I will check the firmware thanks:)

Actually, the settings in your router should not reflect what the diagnostic tool is telling you when running the test on your PC. The router stands in as a bridge between your PC and/or network, and the Internet, and does not play a direct role in your configuration other than the IP address it uses to act as a NAT router for your setup. Hope the site helps though.

Were getting to the bottom of it slowly but surely the funny thing is that all my reg settings say MTU 1492 (am using PPPoE). But when I run the test it says 1440:confused: . I think we'll get to the bottom of it.:D

Sure hope so. :) Are you using Dr. TCP to set the MTU? You're using the right one for your OS, right?

Yeah I've used Dr TCP, Cable nut even went in and edited the reg myself still get 1440. I will double check Dr.TCP and make sure it's set to right os:)
