silly ? but are you supposed to hit cntr-alt.-del. to resart out of dos and get back to windows ?

i'm on 98s.e. and it did not work, had to go into safe mode and then restart 6 times for it to work right.

had the same problem about 3 months ago and had to do a restore of windblows.

Could have a TRS that's not shutting down. ctrl+alt+del should shut you down. Just hit the reset button.

Sorry bud that's TSR.

A terminate-and-stay-resident (TSR) program is a utility that resides in memory while other applications are executing.

In general, TSRs work around MS-DOS (that is, shortcuts are used). TSRs also make assumptions in the way MS-DOS acts. However, the assumptions that TSRs make with one version of MS-DOS may not apply in other versions.

For these reasons, it is a good general troubleshooting technique to not load TSR programs. TSRs can interfere with normal troubleshooting and testing.

Stole the above from microshaft

They can be found in autoexec.bat and config.sys.

Boot to a 98 startup disk then ctrl+alt+del and see if reboots for ya.

 To get into windows from a Dos prompt all you have to type is:
win [enter]
