View Full Version : Netgear 314 and Dynamic IP address ?
I bought my router back when I had a static cable modem address. Since then I have moved and I can only get DSL in my area. When I had a static ip, setting up the router was a breeze. Now, however, Im going to have a dynamic ip and I want to know what settings are going to be different on my router set up?
Thanks in advance,
Hieysk

The web admin wizard will get you through it....obtain IP automatically, and you'll most likely use PPPoE to log on, so fill in your username and password....done.

1) Shut your computer down
2) Plug your Ethernet cable from your modem into the "Internet" port on the RT314
3) Using a "Straight Through" Ethernet cable plug that into your Server's Ethernet card and into the "Local" Ethernet port on the RT314
4) Make sure your modem and RT314 are plugged in and powered on
5) Boot up your computer
6) Make sure that your Ethernet card is using DHCP
7) Launch your web browser
8) In the navigation bar type: http://192.168.0.1 then hit "Enter" on your keyboard
9) Enter "admin" as the "User Name" and "1234" as "Password" then click "OK"
10) Click "Wizard Setup"
11) In "Host Name" enter your user-id - as supplied by your ISP (for your user name make sure you include your ISP's domain as part of it. I.E.: for Verizon it would be userid@verizon.net)
12) In the "Encapsulation" drop down menu choose "PPP over Ethernet"
13) Fill in "User Name" - your user-id as provided by your ISP
14) Fill in "Password" - as provided by your ISP
15) Click on "Next"
16) Click "Finish"
17) Reboot your computer
