I would like to share files between my laptop and my desktop. On my desktop I have W98 and two NICs this computer also has a DSL connect. My laptop is W2000 with a NIC. I often use my laptop on the road but I can't get those files from my laptop to my desktop. I have connected both computers and I can Ping both computers and I have setup shared folders on the computers but I am unable to view content on either computer. Please contact me ASAP.

Make sure the following is set:
- Workgroup name: Make sure both PC's have the same workgroup specified in the network identification tab.
- Computer name: Make sure both PC's have unique NetBIOS names specified in the network configuration tab. Using names like PC1, and PC2, is fine.
- Local Username/password: Make sure both PC's are using the same local username and password combination. If necessary, create a local account on the Windows 98 machine, and call it Administrator. Match the password of the Administrator account to that of the Windows 2000 machine.
- IP addresses: Make sure both PC's have an IP address within the same subnet (10.10.10.1, 2, 3, etc), and none of the PC's have a default gateway specified, with the exception of the IP address bound to the NIC that attaches to your broadband connection.
- As a last resort, add the NetBEUI protocol on both machines.
