I am working with two computers running WINDOWS ME. I have a cable modem on one, and nothing but a network card on the other.
These computers are about 50 feet apart.
What would be appropriate for me to network and share internet connections between the two?
Also, what is the dif. between a router and a hub.

Routers are better if you are willing to buy one - about $100US. 50ft is no where near the limitations of ethernet. Hubs connect computers. Routers connect networks. If you have both of your machines connected, they qualify as a LAN.

Skye is right . Routers are better some models come with a hub already installed. Amazom.com is selling the lynksis combo dls cable router and 4 port hub for 79.99. This is the best way to share a broadband connection.
Here is the link
www.lynksis.com Good luck
just got cable modem yesterday and im trying to network it w/ my other pc. problem im having is the cable modem has two connections on back..one for usb and the other for ethernet. but the tech support said i cant use both ports simultanesouly. was wanting to hook the ethernet to my pc, and the usb for the other pc. is it the cable modem thats not allowing this? its a Scientific Atlanta Cable Modem. any help appreciated

It's the modem. get the LinkSys Cable/DSL Router. That's what I use and have had zero to no problems with it

I second that...
the only "problem" I had was I bought it from the wrong place and paid to much
