Hello All,
I have just started reading SG. And thank you all for making this board so great. I have a few questions as a newbie. My connection is through school's VPN, where I have to log in everytime I restart my computer. But since I live in an apartment, I have to use Charter's cable connection. (this is U. Wisconsin - Madison) I was wondering if I can tweak my connection. I have installed cablenut adjuster proggy, but I have no clue what to fill in for most of the blanks. I have tried some from searching this forum. But seems very unrealiable. Here are my comp. specs for now. I will be getting a new computer soon as my primary. And this one will become my server.
CPU. AMD Tbird 1.33
Ram 768
Network Intel Management PRO+ (original windows drivers)
2xMaxtor diamond max pro 7200 @ raid 0
Windows 2k ADV Server.
Motorola Surfboard 4100
(anything else needed)
This is what I get.
TCP options string = 0204055001010402
MTU = 1400
MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput.
MSS = 1360
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1360, which is equal to MSS.
MSS is not fully optimized for broadband (although it might work well for slower connections). Consider increasing your MTU value.
Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 64240
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 64240
For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
522240 (MSS x 48 * scale factor of 8)
261120 (MSS x 48 * scale factor of 4)
130560 (MSS x 48 * scale factor of 2)
65280 (MSS x 48)
bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 2569.6 kbps (321.2 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1027.84 kbps (128.48 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 36 hops
TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000
I would like to know what I need to fill in for those blanks in Cablenut. And how I can change the MTU to max. Also is it necessary to use the Intel drivers for my network card. I read things say that it might improve performance, but it might crash more. After installing I know there will be more setting changes I can do to the NIC. I will apply stand alone IRQ tweak for my NIC after hearing from you guys. And also is there a way to write a script to auto login without have to click at start up? I know this is a lot of questions. Just want to say thanks for reading and answering my post ahead of time. Thank you
Andrew
