I need some assistance. I am not able to increase the MTU beyond 1454. My ISP MindSpring uses PPPoE so I should beable to set the MaxMTU to 1492. I serached the registry and found that I have several keys which have values of "1454" -- do I change all of them to "1492"? I was able to increase the RWIN as shown below, but my speed has not increased from 1300/300. Any suggestions/assistance would be appreciated.

TCP options string = 020405860103030301010402

MTU = 1454
MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput.

MSS = 1414
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1414, which is equal to MSS.
MSS is not fully optimized for broadband (although it might work well for slower connections). Consider increasing your MTU value.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 520352
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 3 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 65044
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
260176 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 4)
130088 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 2)
65044 (MSS x 46)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 20814.08 kbps (2601.76 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 8325.632 kbps (1040.704 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 115 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

Is your registry really reading 1454 ? or is that TCP Analyzer reporting it to be ?
Check in your registry if it is really setted at 1454. I'am having a similar problem of Analyzer reporting 1454 even though the setting in registry is different like 1492.

I searched my registry and did not find "1492" as a value. I did find "1454" as a value in three places in the registry -- all of them in the:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet|Services|Class\Net|0002

key.

The specific items are:

MaxFrameSize "1454" -- in the 0002 folder

Default "1454" -- in the MaxFramSize folder

Max "1454" -- in the MaxFramSize folder

Do I need to update all of these values to "1492"?

Any help would be appreciated.

Some companies limit their servieces to 1452, So you are ok. You can try the tweaks below. Directions are in the link. Download Cablenut@ www.broadbandnuts.com . List your OS, Specs. What package did you buy for?:)

You have NTS Ethernet. Lobo and dannjr. have a method to increase the MTU by altering one of the setup files. Look at the bottom of one of Lobo's post and one of the links will show you how to do that.

I believe you can also accomplish the same goal by changing those registry values to 1492, then I *believe* you have to make further adjustments in the Start | Network Properties box.

Better to use Lobo's method first -- if you can. If you need more information, I can drag it up.

OK...I made changes...but my speed is still around 1300...any ideas...suggestions?

Try RWIN's of 31944 or 63888:)

OK...Lobo >> I tried RWIN values of 31094 and 63888...my speed still is around 1200 -1300.

EdTo >> I tried RWIN values of 255552 & 267168...no material change to my speeds.

Anyone have any other suggestions??
