erratic connection

(my apologies if this is not the right discussion location)

I have had a stable dsl connection via a linksys router for some time. For no apparent reason other than that I was trying to expand my network hub at the time, I no longer have a stable
connection. I find that if I reboot or am simply idle for some
time that I am no longer connected. By experimentation I've
discovered that running my FTP program I will reconnect.

I can use dialup without problem.( I have a backup account)
Win 98 SE is op sys.

Any suggestions short of reinstalling.

Feel free to respond to kbl@levites.com as an alternative and
TIA.

Do you have newest firmware for your router 1.40.1 bottom of page here (http://www.practicallynetworked.com/support/linksys_router_help_pg2.htm) :)

Suspect router innocent as same problem occurs w/o router being used--just cable modem into one NIC.
