Come back to Speedguide, same thread you were on, in post reply box, with cursor blinking at begining of box go to top, edit, click, select paste, click, this will put information in box. Please X out your IP address, Thank you.:)

What kind of router do you have :) :)

I'm in discussions right now with the head PPPoE developer at Microsoft to get more info on PPPoE MTU adjusting within Windows XP. Hopefully I'll get some info soon. Since some ISPs, specifically Sympatico generally need an MTU of 1454, though 1480 works for 75% if people around the world.

Bob, check your PM.

sorry I had to go to class..

the router and the hub are both from LINKSYS, the router is BEFSR41 and the hub is EFAH05W. both are 10/100's.

we run the cable in to the router and then the hub is used after the router to get more then five computers on the network.

my computer is hucked right up to the router.

I know my way around the cablenut and the regedit when it comes to win 98, but this is the first time I have done these on win XP that I know is based on the win 2000/NT base. so I just need a puch in the rihgt way.
thanks

there way out of it rihgt now.

Note: Read the FAQ if the above is not your IP address.
Browser/OS = Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)

TCP options string = 0204059c01010402

MTU = 1476
MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput. If you are using a router, it could be limiting your MTU regardless of Registry settings.

MSS = 1436
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1436, which is equal to MSS.
MSS is not fully optimized for broadband (although it might work well for slower connections). Consider increasing your MTU value.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 64620
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 64620
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
505472 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
252736 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
126368 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
63184 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 2584.8 kbps (323.1 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1033.92 kbps (129.24 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 115 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

hey BOB, I have sympatico as well and it works way better at the 1492, but the 1480 that the XP set up is better then the sympatico setting they give you.
I have set up my PPPoE connection to the setting on this page and I have doubled what the sympatico setting gave me.

MTU 1476 means you need lastest firmware for your router 1.40.1 at bottom of page hare (http://www.practicallynetworked.com/support/linksys_router_help_pg2.htm) :)

REBOOT

You would have to follow directions on help thread below as Cablenut settings are for small RWIN's:)

Big Amp, Sympatico's Access Manager give you an MTU of 1454, which some people need. I really don't know why though.
