View Full Version : Dsl/Cable Router
ok i have a lynksys cable/dsl router, and i have 2 pc in my household, i have to manually type in my ip into the router as the automatically detect (doesnt work). it woz fine for about 3 months but now my isp keeps on changing my ****ing ip (sorry aboot language), so now i have to reset the router and type them in again about every 2 days. Is there any program better that will detect my settings and will work alone without me typing in any crappy details every 2 days.

A Linksys router will discover the new address automaticaly, although you may need to reset it. Just configure the WAN address for "Obtain IP address automatically"

i've tried that but it doesnt seem to obtain the right ip for some reason?

Update your Firmware....prior to 1.35 it wasn't that reliable...current, last I knew, was 1.39.
Make sure there is a check mark in the box for "Keep Alive" on the first page of the web admin.

Keep Alive feature...the router will always maintain it's WAN connection. Prior to that feature...you often had to log onto the router and hit "Connect" when the connection timed out. The newer firmware will always do its best to keep your connection on all the time...24/7.
