hey all,
well for the past 2.4 years ive had @home cable ad have been super happy with it, but that time has come when we had to move and now we are stuck with verizon dsl in Mass. the speed isnt bad, i get what i pay for 768/128, but i get random disconnects then i cant reconnect. the weird thing is that the connection icon in the sys tray doesnt show as disconnected. but i cant get to any web pages or anywhere. i try to disconnect the connection and retry to connect but it just hangs on "trying to connect with device" .
im using win2k pro sp2
at first i had XP rtm and the winpoet SW wouldnt even detect my nic, but i just read a fix for that so i might put XP back on there.

any thoughts on why i cant reconnect after i lose connectivity?

thanks

Bob Carrick contributed the following in a different thread, worth a try if you consider reinstalling XP:

Windows XP has built in PPPoE. NO other software needed, do this:
1) Create a new connection
2) Choose Connect to Internet
3) Create Manually (option 2)
4) Connect Using Broadband Connection that requires a username and password
5) Give it a name (IE: DSL)
6) Put in your name and password (Don't forget to add your ISP's domain as part of your userid, IE: for Verizon it is userid@verizon.net)
7) Right click and choose properties for that new connection
8) Empty entry in Service name to let it use Wan PPPOE
9) Go to Networking Folder, choose Internet Protocol TCP/IP
10) Choose Properties - Make sure everything is auto assigned

RAS PPPoE works better than the win poet as well.

Yes but PPPoE is native in Windows XP, so why use any software let alone RASPPPoE.

I totally agree. I was just offering another option to the awful win poet.
