I've had my Comcast@Home cable modem since Friday. It works, however on many websites some or all of the pictures do not appear. This problem occurs when I'm using both IE6 and Netscape 6. When I right-click the red x where the pic is supposed to be and select "Show Pic" the picture appears. I've contacted @Home tech support only to be told that the tech couldn't solve my problem. He gave me a reference number and transferred me to the second-level tech support. I was then on hold for 15 minutes then told to call back later. I called back at around 8p.m. (US East Coast time) and gave that tech the reference number. I was given the following "help."
1) Check to make sure the "Show Pictures" option is activated in IE6.
2) My RF was a little poor but the cable modem was connecting so that wasn't a problem.
3) I was "assured" that the service was not the problem.
4) I was then told to replace the video card drivers. I have 3 sets of drivers, each do the same thing.
5) After being placed on hold many times so my tech could check with other techs around him, I was told that I wasn't receiving the pictures because of ghosts that emmitted RF interference. No joke, that was what the tech told me.
After being told that the cause of my problems were "ghosts" (spirits, whatever you want to call them) I hung up.
Here's some background on my wonderful cable operations.
1) Comcast has recently (August) completed a fiber-optic upgrade of my county.
2) I had a telco-return cable modem that worked, before "upgrading" to @Home.
3) I am one of the first two people to be able to receive @Home in my city. @Home has been available in other parts of the county for some time now but I was just notified that we could receive @Home about 2 weeks ago and I jumped at the chance. As far as I know there are only 2 people on the node (the download speeds are amazing), I'm not sure if the other person is having the same problem because I don't know who it is.
4) I don't know whether this makes makes a difference or not but most channels above 70 on my cable service are received with poor picture quality (static, "checkerboard effect", etc.).
5) I'm running Windows ME with a Comcast@Home provided RCA cable modem.
6) None of the patches (the ones listed under the patches directory) from SpeedGuide.Net do anything to help the problem.
7) When I first got my telco-return modem I couldn't place it next to the computer that I have in a wood cabinet. When I placed it in the cabinet the RF would drop incredibly and the modem wouldn't connect. I then just placed the modem on top of my computer unit and it worked fine. I didn't try to put my Comcast@Home modem next to the computer I just put it in the same location as my previous telco-return modem. I'm not sure what this means but it might help.
Please, if you can do anything to help me it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.
