View Full Version : Slow Boot

I recently upgraded my computer from a PIII 850 to a Ath 1.3 and ever since, my boot up has been about 2 minutes longer. During this time I see the Win98 screen but the hard drive light is not active. It eventually starts up and my DSL connection is fine. I have discovered that as soon as I disable my DSL drivers in driver manager, that the boot up is quick and the hard drive light is on for the majority of the boot up. My win logon screen no longer appears either. There is nothing in my start up folder and the only processes running after start up are Explorer and systray. Is there anything I can do that will allow for a quick boot up and keep my DSL drivers enabled? Thanks in advance.

Well first this should go to the software or hardware forums...

From your post you went from Intel to AMD and I didn't see that you formatted your hard drive to re-install your OS? Not really a good idea. It can be done but as you see you’re running into problems. Intel use's different resources than AMD does along with the chipsets on the motherboards.

Try updating windows with windows update see if that helps. Uninstall your DSL software and reload it. If it still doesn’t boot normal than backup and format.

Are you on a PPPoE based connection? If so add an internal IP to your Ethernet card. Sounds like a simple DHCP request issue.

Cool. Welcome to the board Bob. It's good to have another helping hand. Glad to have you aboard. :)

Hey Evil, someone I recognize from another popular DSL / Cable tweaking site. I won't mention that other very popular site. I'm glad to be aboard. I spent hours this morning finding other highspeed forums to join. Luckily I work for myself from home ;)

Problem solved. Needed an internal IP address. Thank you Bob.

This is my first posting, next time I will post to a more appropriate forum. Did not format the drive for the upgrade, although I think I will do so for future upgrades. Thanks Murman for your help.
