I now have 2 broadband providers

1. Bellsouth dsl
2. Time Warner RR

I have aslo found a cool router that supports 2 WANs .....it supports dsl and cable :)

www.nexland.com ... ISB pro800 turbo ... 299.00 :)

My question ...

the router only supports rj45 ethernet and bellsouth is rj11

Can I convert the bellsouth dsl service from rj11 to rj45 to work with the router I found?

Thanks in advance for your help

You would still use your cable modem, and your DSL modem to connect to each of it's related services. The only cables you would connect to the WAN ports on that router are the LAN port cables, or the Ethernet cables that were meant to get connected to the PC coming from the modems. You do realize that although compatible, this router will only do load balancing, NOT line bonding, unless you use two SDSL lines bonded at the CO by your ISP. Bonding is not supposed for ADSL, so your Bell South DSL line won't be capable of bonding with a second one either. This would be great if you have dedicated servers that you wish to allocate some guaranteed bandwidth to.

Yes, DSL goes over regular telephone lines, but it has to go through your modem, and once it's through, it should run through ethernet cables. The cable modem is the same way, but on the WAN side, instead of using RJ11 cables, it uses coaxial. But they both generally use RJ45 on the home (LAN) side. The router is only a router, it won't replace your modems.

Thanks for the response

I guess my dsl provider is cheap they use and internal modem not an external. So I'm guessing for this to work I would 1st have to buy a external dsl modem then I would have my rj45 to connect to the WAN port of the router. which = expensive

what about midpoint ? Anyone using it ?

I have read some reviews and all were very good. It is about 120$ for the plus edition. Also says it has connection teaming for any kind of connection (cable, dsl, analog, or mix and match up to 16) is this true ----- true connection teaming from software ?!?

Thanks for your input

Ah. I didn't realize that you have an internal DSL modem. The vast majority of people I've talked to have external ones.

Ahh.. I didn't know that either. You'd need an external Ethernet DSL modem to get that setup to work. At this point I'd use Midpoint. It works, but you have to load a Midpoint client in every machine you intend to load balance both connections to. Not really sure how effective it is, never really bothered trying to get it to work.

Yes Alcatel makes a ethernet modem for bellsouth ,but bell charges around 150 to 200$ for it.Look on internet and find one (that will work with there setup).

Go to eBay and search for an "Efficient SpeedStream 5260" or an "Alcatel Speed Touch Home". I've used both and they're great.
