It's available now. Got this in my mail.

A new mass mailing virus is In the Wild - I-Worm/Nimda.
Spreads as attached file readme.exe and is also able to use for
its spreading similiar trick as CodeRed worm.

Update for AVG Anti-Virus System will be available on our web pages
soon today.

Norm.. Thanks for the reminder.
There appears to be a new version of AVG out as well.

Mine is Ver. 280 and there is no update for it.
There is however, for Ver. 281.
Guess I will have to go get the new version of the program just to stay on top.

With the IPE updates being so frequent (about every 3 days) I am beginning to think about going in once a week.
Your thoughts?

There ya go! The AVG website is here. (http://www.grisoft.com) for the U.S. site.
Appears to be offline at the moment though. Probably server overload. Again.
AutoUpdate says the program is up to date. But they sent a message saying an update was imminent 2 days ago.
Then I find the program has been updated as well and the new version is V.231. I have V.230. Grrrrr. D/lolad time again.
Just as well the program is soooo good, IMHO.

Croc. Croc, are you using the "paid for" version of AVG ?
I use the free one and it's:
version 6.0.281 - release date 8/23/01
virus database 149 - release date 9/18/01

Yes, it does work very well, I think it was you who introtuced me to it, thanks. I like the way it just snaps to attention when it catches a virus too, always catches me off gaurd. When it does it, I always think it's a blue screen coming, very similar. hehe.

I'm still running Innoculate IT too, and it does have frequent updates. I check both for updates first thing every day. I wouldn't wait a week if I were you, your safer if you get the updates as soon as they are available.

BTW - Another new update for Innoculate IT since I first posted.
The latest is now aup_1502.exe

AVG is great,. it has an email scanner and a scheduler to check my entire system every 24 hours, I love it. :)

Fredra, I just took Norton off 15 computers for one of my clients. It is buggy. It scans all .doc files whether told to or not ( i even removed the .doc from it's list and it still scans them), and was slowing down the opening of any files in MSWord so bad they were fed up with it. I am going to recommend the proffesional version of AVG to them.
I have both AVG and Innoc IT running on my PC and I wouldn't even know they were there, they work so well and take very little resources( even with both running). I scan all files too.
Norton has a good rep, but I can't stand it. I wonder why it slows everything down, and 2 virus progs (Innoc IT, and AVG) together don't. Norton needs to take a serious look at thier software, it's getting out of hand the way it tries to take over a system, and even worse when trying to get rid of it.
(Not just av software, all thier software)

Hey Norm
I agree with you 100%... I used to use Norton way back when it was the only thing to do recover and defrag (DOS world).
I had Norton AV and NIS on 95, 98, 98se & 2000. I took it off for the same reason...slow and bloated code..... good heavens, don't they KNOW that.
I still have InoculatIT on my laptop and Grisoft on my ME ..... but when I tried to install AVG on XP it says it is not compatible. I have since sent them an email asking about this, no reply as yet. In other newsgroups, people have said that they disregard that message and it still works... I am not prepared to be so flagrant so I installed Norton 2002. It works under XP with no problems, but as soon as AVG has a version (free or paid) that works with XP, I will be yanking out NORTON and installing AVG.
I need the ability to scan my emails (outgoing and incoming)and although Norton does that, AVG does it in the background with no fuss and it simply WORKS better.
Now I will get the H### off my soapbox....LOL :D :D
PEACE!!!!!!

Yep, Norton used to be "THE" software in the past. They're doing themselves in with all this bloated, takeover a system software.

I've had to remove it from many PC's (Norton Utilities etc) and I couldn't begin to explain how to do it. I'd have to write a book, it's so complicated. A simple uninstall just doesn't get rid of it.

AVG is trying to gain market share, so I would bet they'll have a version for XP soon, hope so for your sake :)

I hear you pal.
I got in big trouble with my boss when I had to remove Norton Utilities from his laptop... OH GAWD!!!!...What a mess.
PEACE!!!!
