Is it true that if you are running like a warez version of XP, and you go on the internet, microsoft will catch you and you will be arrested? or can a heavy firewall block this? Please give me some info and what microshaft can do. thanx.

Microsoft has to enter your home and see the operating system on you pc to be able to do anything about it. So if they know what's in your house because windows is sending a message back to Microsoft, it won't help them at all in court. They would need a police officer or investigator with a court order. Also, for Microsoft to have proof they will need to invade your privacy and in turn you can sue them for invasion of privacy. This would be a big problem for them, as the consumer would sue as well for the same problem. If you've noticed, the new Windows XP is designed to attempt to stop piracy by forcing you to activate your windows. Also, if too many changes occur, you will need to activate it again. They did this because they know they can't do sh***t about people who are running a pirated copy of windows. If your running a business, it's a whole new story as audits can be performed on the company.

P.S. If you are going to run a warez copy, get the corporate edition Build 2600. No activation is required. So much for stopping piracy!

My version of ME came with the purchase of my pc. I would never buy windows.

About a year or two ago Microsoft released a search engine in Canada to locate FTP sites that where distributing Microsoft software freely.

It was released in Canada because we pirate the most Micrososft software in North America and are bound by the same copyright laws as the US. Eventually Microsoft released this search engine onto the entire world.

I could'nt find the exact link to the article in my local newspaper but I did find this on Microsoft.com

One thing that I would like to point out, Microsoft does not spy on it's consumers. Microsoft collects stats for its own marketing deparments by using its consumer base as a sample. They are perfectly allowed to do this.

However, Microsoft has sold the NSA "back door keys" to all of its operating systems. This is what scares me and what turned me to Linux (that and the fact that MS oses suck), lets see the NSA break my box which is full of intergrate cryptography :D
