Here it is, i just installed windows xp 2001 proffesional version, and my speeds are kinda slow

I have a 333mhz processor with 128mb or ram and i was wondering if theres any way to get better speeds.

Heres my string:

TCP options string = 020405b40103030101010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 128480
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 1 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 64240
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 5139.2 kbps (642.4 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 2055.68 kbps (256.96 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 39 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

RWIN's
To prevent problems in the future I will only recommend RWIN's to people who have Speedguide's speed patch installed, common sense dictates that most setting's in a patch are centered around the RWIN they use, Speedguide uses mostly Windows default settings so I am willing to try different RWIN's, I do not know how they work with other patchs, so please have Speedguide's speed patch in, directions on help thread below in signature.

Tweaks for Windows XP

1.) Turn off System restore and auto updates.
2.) Use SG's System ini tweak set at 7168, type sysedit in run box, Close out of all boxes except System Ini, put it in 386th Enh, thats where it goes , see if it helps you are not, if you don't have alot of RAM it might not.
3.) Go to control panel, system, advanced tab at top, performance, settings, click on best performance, then advanced tab at top, background services, then programs
4.) Disable IDE Port Scanning on empty ports and save bootup time.
Go to System Properties by right-clicking on My Computer or via the Control Panel.
Select the Hardware tab.
Look at the Device Manager section and click on the Device Manager button.
This brings up the Device Manager screen.
Open up the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers device branch. Then you will see a list of all the IDE controllers

and channels in your system.
Now, select any one of the IDE channels, right click and choose Properties. Or just double click on the

IDE channel.
Now, select the Advanced Settings tab to get the screen below. As you can see below,

the second port (Device 1) on the Primary IDE Channel does not any IDE device attached to it.

Thus, the Device Type is labeled as Auto Detection. In contrast, the first port has a device attached. That's why the Device Type is grayed out.
To disable IDE device scanning for the second port, click on Auto Detection and you will see

two choices on the list. Select None.
Click OK and reboot. Windows 2000 will now refrain from scanning that IDE port at start up and

should load a little faster
5.) Use Win 2000- patches for XP
6.) Yes Cablenuts adjuster works with XP
7.) This is the neatest, do it and come back to forum,
Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Appearance and Themes.
Click the Display icon, click the Appearance tab, and then click Effects.
Click the Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts check box to select it, and select ClearType from the list.
Click OK, and then click OK again.
8.) This was for WIN 2000 but it works in XP too, I use it:
Here's a great tip to speed up your browsing of Windows 2000 machines. Its actually a fix to a bug that by default of a normal Windows 2000 setup that scans shared files for Scheduled Tasks. And its turns out that you can experience a delay as long as 30 seconds when you try to view shared files across a network from as Windows 2000 is using the extra time to search the remote computer. Note that though the fix is originally intended for only those affected, Windows 2000 users will experience that actual browsing speed of both the Internet & Windows Explorers improving significantly after applying it since it doesnt search for the Scheduled Tasks anymore. Here's how :

9.) This make broswing alot faster, but if you use scheduled tasks, don't do this,
Open up the Registry and go to :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Explorer/RemoteComputer/NameSpace

Under that branch, select the key :

{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}

and delete it.

10.) Auto Logon XP
real easy and straight forward.

1. click on "Start" - then click on "Run" - type "control userpasswords2"

2. click OK

3. On the Users tab, clear the "Users must enter a user name and password to
use this computer" check box.

4. A dialog will appear that asks you what user name and password should be used to logon automatically.

Your all set.

11.) One of the most full featured Windows XP configuration tools available is hidden right there in your system, but most people don't even know it exists. It's called the Local Group Policy Editor, or gpedit for short. To invoke this editor, select Start and then Run, then type the following:
gpedit.msc

12.) I stole this from another sitr: Set at 0 for XP:REAL TIME PRIORITY

13.) You can easily create a bootable floppy disk by following these steps:

Place a blank disk in the floppy disk drive.
Click Start, and then click My Computer. Or My Computer Icon on desktop
Right–click the floppy disk drive, and then click Format on the shortcut menu.
Click Create an MS–DOS startup disk, and then click Start.
Now you’re on your way to a bootable startup disk.

14.) Change Web Page Font Size on the Fly
=========================
===========

If your mouse contains a wheel for scrolling, you can change font size on the fly when viewing a Web page. To do so:

Press and hold Ctrl. Scroll down (or towards yourself) to enlarge the font size. Scroll up (or away from yourself) to reduce the font size.

You might find it useful to reduce font size when printing a Web page, so that you can fit more content on the page.

15.) Use your Windows Key
====================

The Windows logo key, located in the bottom row of most computer keyboards is a little-used treasure. Don''t ignore it. It is the shortcut anchor for the following commands:

Windows: Display the Start menu
Windows + D: Minimize or restore all windows
Windows + E: Display Windows Explorer
Windows + F: Display Search for files
Windows + Ctrl + F: Display Search for computer
Windows + F1: Display Help and Support Center
Windows + R: Display Run dialog box
Windows + break: Display System Properties dialog box
Windows + shift + M: Undo minimize all windows
Windows + L: Lock the workstation
Windows + U: Open Utility Manager
Windows + Q: Quick switching of users (Powertoys only)
Windows + Q: Hold Windows Key, then tap Q to scroll thru the different users on your pc

16.) NIC Buffer tweaks you may wish to try W2k & XP only

Larger RWIN

InitialLargerBufferCount- 50
InitialMediumBufferCount- 100
InitalSmallBufferCount-150
LargerBufferSize-40960
MediumBufferSize-7215
PriorityBoost-2
SmallBufferCount- 1024

Small RWIN

For use with small RWIN's

NIC Buffer Settings: (for win2k and XP only)
InitialLargerBufferCount- 100
InitialMediumBufferCount- 500
InitalSmallBufferCount-800
LargerBufferSize-40960
MaxFast Tranmit-2
MediumBufferSize-7215
PriorityBoost-2
SmallBufferCount- 1024

Lobo, i tried to go thourgh all those steps but i get stuck at the system ini tweak, because it says its only for Window 9x platforms, but i found something like intialbuffersize and buffer count and i applied that using cablenuts and i went to dsl reports to test my speed and this is what i got:

**Speed 2079down/289up kbps **
At least 41 times faster than a 56k.

Heres my TCP string though and its different i think than the dsl reports test:

TCP options string = 020405b40103030201010402

Bring up Cablenuts adjuster inside Cablenut on desktop the numbers below go in 3 places in W2k and XP, they are: DefaultReceiveWindow, TcpWindowSize, GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize, take out number that is in there and put in one of these, 1 at a time, try: 280320, 303680, 321200

You do not have to show me but check analyzer here at SG to make sure RWIN is in, you will see number right after (RWIN) on analyzer

At bottom click save to registry, and REBOOT each time you change value in adjuster or it will not work. Click on tools at top of IE, internet options, delete files and offline files (This is safe, temp files) and click on clear history after EVERY test . Quick speed test here (http://speedtest.umnet.umich.edu/)
Speedtest may open another browser, so check taskbar and close other, no other programs should be running, No AIM, ICQ, Virus scanner, Firewall, nothing
Once you find fast number for you, you want to save it, on file at top of adjuster click on that, save custom settings, put RWIN size in as name and click on save, now if you ever want these settings back, click on file, open custom settings file, and click on RWIN number, then click on save to registry at bottom, and REBOOT, your done. How to do real dowwnload test on help thread below in signature.
