Checking out the signal page gives me these results. Are these ok? They never change for some reason...should they?

Downstream Value
Frequency 117000000 Hz Locked
Signal to Noise Ratio 34 dB
QAM 64
Network Access Control Object ON
Power Level -4 dBmV

Upstream Value
Channel ID 3
Frequency 38000000 Hz Ranged
Ranging Service ID 3
Symbol Rate 2.560 Msym/s
Power Level 58 dBmV

i have both an sb4100 and sb2100d modem and your figures seem fine... your upstream power level seems a bit high, but as long as you're getting good speeds you're ok... only thing i could think of that would be affected by that value would be data handling over your signal... you might get mucho lag during peak times, even though there's plenty of bandwidth to spare...

Thanks sodeo. I do have probs with uploads and it doesn't matter what time it is. Even a single person on on the same cable system as I can't even get close to my max of 128KB, they get 75KB at best, but if 2 or 3 are sent stuff at the same time, then it finally gets close to max.

Your transmit power is very high at 58 db, I am not sure if that is max or not. But, I believe that most modems cannot send any higher than 60 db. I would call my ISP with transmit power that high. Your S to N is excellent and your receive power is also good. But, that transmit is a problem. Tell them you are at or near max send db.

All of the values you posted are withing spec, some of them are static and provided by the cable company, such as the upstream/downstream transmit frequency, QAM, Network Access, Symbol, etc.

I am a cable modem installer, and the only value that concerns me is the upstream transmit power. It really should not be greater than 40 db. The fact that you are having upstream problems also suggests that there is a problem.

You should contact your cable company to come out for a service call to check your drop to make sure it is still in good shape. They should also read your house back for ingress (signals "leaking" into the cable such as from a bad connection somewhere). There may be a problem somewhere that is causing your modem to have to transmit very high to overcome the "noise" on your cable line.

Hope this helps.

I guess I'm having slightly intolerable noise levels on my cable line as well, my upstream transmit power is current set at 48dBmV. Would changing the splitter outside help? I know it hasn't gotten changed in a few years. Here's my signal page anyhow, I have a Motorola SB4100:

Frequency 645000000 Hz Locked
Signal to Noise Ratio 37 dB
QAM 64
Network Access Control Object ON
Power Level 1 dBmV The Downstream Power Level reading is a snapshot taken at the time this page was requested. Please Reload/Refresh this Page for a new reading

Upstream Value
Channel ID 2
Frequency 30992000 Hz Ranged
Ranging Service ID 5
Symbol Rate 2.560 Msym/s
Power Level 48 dBmV
