View Full Version : adaware 5.6 problem

I downloaded and installed AdAware 5.6 the other night. I was running the previous version which worked just fine. The new one scans my system but when it reaches the end of the scan I get the following error message;
"ungultiges argument zum codieren uhrzeit"
I cannot find a translation for this phrase on the net and have no clue what it's trying to tell me. I only know this, it doesn't appear to me that the new version is completing the scan. I had no problems with the old version. Any ideas?

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Nothing changed. I scanned for viruses and trojans 2 days ago with IPE and the Cleaner. The system is clean. I'll try the uninstall thing again and see what happens.

I just uninstalled and redownloaded the file. I have now downloaded it from the main site and 2 mirror sites. Same result after installation every time and the message is still in german. I'm lost now.
urizen, the writer(?) of the program would certainly like to hear about your troubles. You'll need to either email him direct or you can go to the Ad aware forum here. (http://www.voiceofthepublic.org/forums.html) You'll need to register to post, but they are very interested in anything found wrong in the software.
Stupid question! Do you have the language set to english in the options panel?
Contact urizen at this address mailto: urizen@lavasoftusa.com
Meanwhile, I hope you don't mind but I copied your post to the board over there, in hopes of getting you an answer and some help. ;)

That doesn't make all that much sense to me (I'm German, and it IS German, just not coherent...). Are you sure this is 100% exactly the error message displayed? A translation based on what you posted would be:
"Invalid argument to encode time". I really don't know if that helps you at all. If the error message is different, please post it...
Cheers,
Ronald

While I don't have a true answer, here are some ideas that you can try...
1) Have the user shut down everything before scanning. Just as you would do this with an anti-virus, the same has to be done with Ad-Aware.
2) Did the user uninstall the previous version before installing this update? If he didn't direct him to this forum where we can assist him better.
Changing the language settings isn't going to change the language of the error message, as Ad-Aware is from Germany. Hopefully, maybe Urizen will come around and see this, but he's usually really busy... as it's mainly just him writing Ad-Aware.
But thanks for asking us about it... hopefully my ideas will help!
Aaron
But we'll figure out an answer for him... it's just better if we can ask him direct questions... and it's better if someone who knows what's going on helps him... as I am not sure how to proceed.
Just have him keep going in this thread.

Sorry, I can't cut and paste the error message but can verify that it is the message verbatim except there is some kind of double dot accent symbol oner the second "U" in "ungulitiges". Options shows English as the selected language. I'll watch the other forum as well. Thanks guys.

The umlaut ü doesn't make a difference, as I read it as such anyways. So, the error message just doesn't make any sense to begin with. Sorry, that's all I can help ya out with.

If you want to switch it to english, Just go in to the configuration tab .After you do this click on options tab. At the bottom of the page their is a place you can change the settings to the English and so on. Good Luck!;) If this does not work remove it and make sure it is out of your system files, plus your reg. Then reinstall from the main site only and see if this helps. I have been useing it with no proublems. Hope this helps;)
Urizen was very pressed to get this release out. I still think you should email him and have him review the problem, even though it appears to be solved. He had been out of town for over a month and was already a week late with the release. He spent Labor day weekend refining and fixing the installers and such.
Not making excuses for the program. Just want you to know that if you have a problem, he definately wants to know about it and correct it. Who knows, he may even pull the download until it's fixed. He's done that before too!
You shouldn't have to delete anything manually as far as the logs and such. It's just my opinion, but I think you should bring it to his attention on a personal level. ;)

for those interested, I have not received a response to my e-mails to Urizen re: this problem. If I ever do I'll post it here.
Thanks for the update. I'm wondering why it's taking him a great deal of time to get back to you about it. I guess we'll know at his convenience.

You might trying deleting the version you have now. THEN GOING BACK TO THE WEBSITE AND DOWNLOADING THE TOP VERSION BEFORE THEY LIST THE GERMAN VERSION. I mean the very first down load listed, It is the englisglish version. This may solve your proublem. GoodLuck!
I of course did download the English version and, yes, English is selected in the options panel. In any case I've pursued this as far as I'm going to. The first 2 versions of this proggie worked fine. This one doesn't. I'll uninstall it and see if I can get the old one back. Thanks guys.
