IE tries to detect proxy settings when I first open it

sup fellas,
I have AT T road runner, works great, but when I first boot up the computer and open IE, it won't take me to my homepage right away. it takes a while to detect proxy settings, then displays the page. I have it configured in ie.5.5 to detect proxy server automatically, and i run 98 SE.

i have the sharkfin 3com modem. my connection is fine, just want to know how i can prevent it from trying to detect a proxy server all the time. thanks.

go in and uncheck the auto then hit ok, that should make it stop.

does it on mine too. not sure why but i manually configured mine to proxy on some things. whats wrong with proxy anyway?

If you're able, it's a lot faster to NOT go through a proxy. Porxy just adds one more step, one more thing to get delayed by, one more thing to go wrong.
