I have three computers connected on a LAN through a Netgear Hub. All three used to be able to get on the internet through a cable connection (Roadrunner) at the same time. One day one of them stopped working. I've tried everything to get it back on. It's always the same one and the other two always work. Is this because of Roadrunner not allowing it on and needing a router? Or because of something else? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Chad
One way to find out. Plug your other systems staight into the modem and if they can get online then roadrunner has capped your limet
How many IP's did u have before?? if u only had one how did they connect via a hub??.... sorry but there's not alot of information about your system

I assume I had three. I know for a fact I have two now. I never checked before, but since all three could get on at the same time through a hub I assume that there were three IPs. I tried what Sid suggest and plugged the computer that won't get on straight into the cable modem and it still won't work.
Did you release the ip and renew it after you plugged it into the modem(DHCP only)? Have you tried to ping the nic? Go into dos prompt and type ping 127.0.0.1 and tell us what comes back

I tried the releasing of the IP and Renewing it with it just plugged into the cable modem and it works. I assume this means RR has capped my IP limit?
You guys are very helpful.
Thanks.

Well what does happen is that they limit it based on the MAC Address on you NIC Card and the limit is 3 devices.
Now this can be complicated because what a device is.
You can usualy clear out the MAC Address table in your cable modem by reseting it. If at any time you added a 4th device to your network or changed out NIC Cards you will have gone over your max and then one of your PC's will not be able to log on.
Now - if you can plug in all of you Computers 1 at a time to the cable modem and they get an IP address individualy you should be ok becuase the cap is bassed on the MAC Addresses.
The next step is to make sure the ports in your hub are working corectly. After that I am not positive what you would need to do.
I had to buy a router becuase I have 3 pcs, 1 laptop, 1 wireless device and one VPN device. That was one to many devices and Road Runner didn't like me.
