I had been hosting web pages with an IIS 4 server and e-mail using an exchange 5.5 server behind a proxy 2.0 server for a few months using my cable modem, when all of a sudden http requests began timing out going to my ip address. smtp, pop3, ftp, etc., all work though. if i telnet my ip address using the commonly used ports other than 80, they get through, while port 80 never connects. i have no idea what happened, and i know it isn't something i did because i hadn't made any configurations changes to my setup. i also know that it isn't a virus.
as a test, i disconnected one of my workstations from my lan, put iis 5 onto it, setup a sample website, disconnected my lan from the cable modem, and connected my workstation directly to the modem, by itself, to see if maybe my proxy settings were causing the problem. web requests to the ip address still timed out.
can a cable isp block requests on port 80 going to your computer?
any help on this would be GREATLY appreciated.
thanks for your time,
