View Full Version : Fried Linksys routers
my next door neighbor and i both have the linksys 4port router...within a week of each other they have gone caput. even linksys tech says they need to be replaced. the tech offered no reason as what might have caused the prob. perhaps i'm a little paranoid, but our local cable/isp provider was in our neighborhood installing new digital hardware, etc. at about the time our routers died. could they have been the cause of the problem or is more likely coincidence?

Are they still under warranty? If they are, just return them. I dunno if the digital upgrade could have caused it, a few of my friends have a Linksys around here and when they upgraded our service to digital they didn't have any problems.
I've gone through two of the Linksys 4 port routers since the first of the year. The first one lasted from January to July, the next lasted from July to August. I got another third new one and couldn't even get it to connect out of the box. I spent nearly five hours on the phone last week with Linksys tech support and we never did figure it out. I've got Roadrunner and "It's not their problem". I then got a Netgear and it has been able to make the connection but it is very slow. If I connect a single computer up directly to the modem it works fine 300k+/- if I go through the router it drops to 18k+/-. I just got a note from Netgear tech support to upgrade the ROM and replace the cable and they think that will solve my speed problem.
