View Full Version : Help with SpeedTweak Patch
Maybe someone here can help me-
I downloaded the SpeedTweak registry patch, which is an .inf file. I know that to install this I need to right-click the file and click 'Install'. When I do this a window comes up saying that there is no association for installing .inf files. Windows doesn't know what application to use to perform the install task. I looked at the file association for .inf files (called 'setup information' in the file type list, under tools> folder options> file types in Windows Explorer) and there is nothing associated with the 'install' action - the 'Application used to perform action' field is blank. I'm running win98se. If someone out there could tell me what application is listed on their machine for performing the 'install action' I'd really appreciate it. Thx!!

I'm running windows ME but here's what I have for .inf files under settings-control panel-folder options-file types-highlight .INF files and click Advanced- this is where we might be different, I have a listing for Install but if you don't add new and put this in and see if it works
Action: &Install
Application used to perform action: C:\WINDOWS\rundll.exe setupx.dll,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %1
Hope that helped
You unzip file first then go to where you unzipped it to, RIGHT click on it, up to install or merge, click, and REBOOT:)
I plugged that in for the association and I don't get an error installing now, but it doesn't seem to have changed anything.
TCP options string = 020405b401010402
MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.
MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.
Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 65535
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 65535
Note: Under Windows 9x, if you have RWIN set to any other value, and the Analyzer reports 65535 you might need to install the MS Vtcp386 fix.
For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

I'll try doing it manually I geuss. :(
Thanks alot for the help, it was worth a shot!

That's what I get now. I didn't have the patch
:eek:
Now my speeds (according to DSL reports test) are 1910 down and 329 up, was getting around 1100 down before. Does this seem good for my rr connection, or are there other things I should change? Thanks so much for the help!!
Try changing RWIN (Tcp Default Window with this tool to 531440, 554800 or 560640
Download to desktop DRTCP019.exe, you may change alot of settings with this, first select your adapter, after changing anything play with it until apply button lites up, then click on it. Then REBOOT for it to work.
