I've tried a few tweaks and have managed to speed up my connection thanks to this forum and have just run the speedguide tcp/ip analyzer. The "time to live left" setting seems low and was wondering what you recommend changing it to. I am running Earthling DSL and am paying for 1.5 mb up and 128kb down. I am using the Raspppoe dial up adapter and Cablenut to adjust the different settings. Here are the results of the test, any suggestions?
TCP properties for IP = xxxxxxxxxx ()

Browser/OS = Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0b; Windows 98; Win 9x 4.90)
TCP options string = 020405ac01010402
MTU = 1492
MTU seems to be optimized for PPPoE... If you are not on a PPPoE connection, consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for optimal throughput.
MSS = 1452
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1452, which is equal to MSS.
MSS is optimized for PPPoE. If you are not on a PPPoE connection, consider increasing your MTU value.
Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 40656
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 40656
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
511104 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
255552 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
127776 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
63888 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1626.24 kbps (203.28 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 650.496 kbps (81.312 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 15 hops
There are less than 16 hops left before your packet is discarded, consider increasing your TTL value
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00001000
Precedence (priority) = 000 (routine)
Delay = 0 (normal delay)
Throughput = 1 (high throughput)
Reliability = 0 (normal reliability)
Cost = 0 (normal cost)

Thanks!!
