I was told that in-orderr to share my RoadRunner cable service to three pc's or more I would need a router. I have a router from my old dsl connection. It's a Cisco 675.

My question is do I just plug in the router and that's it or will gateways and all that have to be manually assigned ?

and
What order does the connection need to go in.

Cisco router will work fine with your LAN setup, given that you changed nothing on your clients. For the WAN side, you may or may not need to make some changes. If your RoadRunner service includes a static IP address, which I find very unlikely, then you would need to configure this on your router. If it's a dynamic IP address, and your previous service was also dynamic IP, then there's nothing you need to change.

The only thing you might have to do is have your router clone your MAC address from the computer that was initially hooked up to the cable modem.

The order you want will be, wall -> modem -> router -> computers. You don't really have a choice anyway, since you can't go from the wall -> router -> modem -> computers, since they use different cables. And I'd imagine you must've had it set up the way I'm suggesting when you had DSL as well. If you meant something else byWhat order does the connection need to go in. then let me know, and I'll give new suggestions.

What do you mean the same goes for browsing? As in when you start browsing, he can't browse anymore?

Am I to take it that you two are both on the same network, connected to the same router? If so, then it sounds like maybe you both have the same IP address, in which case only one of you could use it at a time. That, or maybe your router is actually a hub, and once again, you're both using the same IP on two different computers.

my mate has a Linksys router using the setup wall> cable modem> linksys router> computers

firmware version 1.36, oct 5th 2000 he can change settings from the web page using http://192.0.0.1 (this comes up with a menu)

well for browsing for example when his lass is on a internet page and he wants to look at the same one he cant ... it just stops him

thats the same for quake2, but iam sure i have read that unreal works ok..

oh while my mate is playing quake2 and when I start playing quake2 but on another server (diff IP) his and my pings go out off the roof unplayable ?
Now when he is playing quake2 and start playing quake 3 the pings are good does this happing to do with sockets ?
