i noticed the usual message "it is now safe to shutdown your computer" does not appear when i shutdown. all i get is a black screen then the computer shuts off.

it's weird cuz i don't think it is completely off. the computer looks like it's completely off but looking at my linksys router it show that there is still a "link" coming from that particular computer, meaning the lights are still on. but if i disconnect the power cable from the computer the light obviously turns off. i also noticed that the "led" is still full green on my monitor when i shutdown when normally it would turn orange and go in standby or something when i shutdown the computer.

some have suggested that maybe the "WOL" of my NIC is enabled but i'm sure it isn't as i checked in the bios.

i'll prolly play with the power management settings in the bios and in windows later but was wondering if anyone had similar problems before???

almost forgot my board is an abit kt7a running win98se.

Likely it's your ACPM, or power management settings on your PC. The lights on the LED are supposed to be on even after you turn off your computer. Your PC's motherboard supports Wake On LAN, a feature that makes it a requirement that the PCI bus on your motherboard stays on. As for the LED, on your monitor, that it sort of an odd one, you may need to check the settings on your BIOS related to your video.
