I was using a Linksys router which quit working on Friday. I thought it got zapped by lightning. I could connect to Roadrunner directly so I thought it was the router. I bought another Linksys router and couldn't get it to work at all. Talked to Linksys and Roadrunner support for over 5 hours over two days. NO LUCK. In desperation I bought an Netgear RT311 router and a Netgear FS108 switch. I got my network back and I can connect to the internet through the router but it is really slow. If I connect through the modem I'm getting speeds of over 300kbps on the downstream side, if I have only one computer connected to the switch and use the router I drop down to 30kbps. (Not even a good dial up speed) I thought that maybe I needed to spoof the network card through the router but I couldn't remember which machine was originally connected to the modem so I called RR to get the MAC address. They only have the modems MAC on file and don't use the networkcard MAC for anything. I'm running out of ideas.

Hope somebody can help I really miss the movie trailers. I'm too cheap to pay for the whole movie. I also miss my video conference with my kids and grandkids.

So far I've:

changed cables
reset everything one at a time, reset everything at once
powered down eveything overnight
released and renewed the PCs
set the network speed to a fixed 10mb or 100mb rather than autoselect
set IP address and DNS to fixed address and gone back to letting the DCHP do it's work
