or go into the bios and change the boot order to boot from the CD-ROM. Win2K is a bootable cd.The only time I've had to use the floppies is if there is a problem with booting to the CD-ROM.

Some will disagree but doing a fresh, full install of your O/S will usually be a better performer.

if your CD doesnt boot use a boot disk and get to command prompt

do this...

A:\X:\

X:\X:\i386\winnt.exe

there ya go.. that will start set up.

remember replace X: with the drive letter it was assigned.

Its not going to be D: but probably E or F.. when the floppy is booting into ram it will tell you hwat drives it detected and the letter assigned. (you must boot with cd rom support ;))

I think a clean install is better too - backup what you want and format c:\ Howver, before you format and use Ping's method ( mine too), make sure that smartdrv.exe is on your win 98 boot disk.
After formatting, run smartdrv; then cd to your CD drive etc. If you try PIng's method without smartdrv, W2K will warn you - without it, an install can take the better part of a day.

I agree on a fresh install being the best way to go.
Just wanted it clear....I'm no lamer :D

Dual boot is even better, you get the best of both worlds. Win98 on C: and Win2K on D: and chosse which OS to enter at bootup.

If you have 2 partitons just put the Win2K CD in while in Win98 and follow the prompts. Choose NO to upgrading, then you'll have the choice to dual boot, and pick your install partition. But don't put both OS's on the same partition.

Right clcik my computer... and get properties

click the advanced tab and then start up and recovery..

then simply uncheck the box that says.. display a list of operating systems for..

I dont see why it would ask.. it ussually only asks if it sees another partition.

Mine is on yet it doesnt show the boot screen because I only have 1 partition
