56k Modem

I am using a 56k modem. They dont deliver cable to my area and satalite is too expensive. So i am looking for ways to speed up my connection and make gaming better online. I play Diablo 2, Black and White, Unreal Tournament, Half Life/TFC, and Warcraft 2. I use a 8MB grafix card on this computer. I hope the info helped. If you regualraly get 5-7K on your downloads you are not going to get any higher...

Take into consideration the fact that you probably live a ways from the ISP seeings how you cant get cable so your 56K probably cant perform at its peak.

Check your network speed and compare that to what your download speeds are...

I too have to use a 56K dial-up and experience a lot of latency and disconnections whilst playing Age of Empires via MSN. Any suggestions (not rude, please!) for what I can do to improve things? Cheers, Andy.

For one, i think that if you are going to play FPS games you need at least a ISDN Connection.

There are several other things you can check if you are not getting around 5k-7k.

1) The line may be bad, and if so call your phone company for a better one.
2) You can try another modem such as 3com.


CoolJ thats a good recomendation, although for about 3 months i have been playing CS on 56k (notnow) and its not too bad. althought i do get the FLushpacket, Connection problems, frozen screens. LOL but after all that its fine:D

real funny CoolJ and powerful squid hehe, but im talking about all games anywayz. But anyways i only get about 3k at the most on downloads, and i do think the line sux. this is the third one they put in for me. See i live like 400 yards away from the road, thats the big problem. My family and others are trying to get cable run on our side of the road right now. But if we get it im just getting it for my comp. Im keeping my direc TV! :p Well thanx guys.
