Duron 800MHZ, 192mb RAM, Windows ME
TCP options string = 020405b40103030301010402
MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.
MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.
Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 280320
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 3 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 35040
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 11212.8 kbps (1401.6 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 4485.12 kbps (560.64 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 29 hops
TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000
I'm mostly interested in trying to get a better ping in online games. Is there anything I should change? I have applied tweaks before, they didn't seem to do too much.

operationivy, Also configure settings in the game. Someone showed me yesterday on Quake 3 Arena some settings that decreased my ping by about 20.
/snaps 40
/cl_maxpackets 20
/rate 8000
I am not sure if all games use the same wording. i know that in counter-strike you do not need the forward slashes / to configure the game.

Lower your RWIN a bit =).

hmm lower RWIN, but to what?
not really sure ivy if rwin helps gaming maybe Ping can give you a better answer
anyway check this for your guide to q3

maybe guys who play other games will post links for ya

thanks, but I already know about those forums, and I've tried all of their suggestions/tweaks. Nothing really works too well. Oh well...
ivy have you tried a search for a latency reduction script?

yes i have the script already, and it doesn't seem to do anything at all

Ahh as far as Quake3 goes on a dsl/cable connection this is what you want:
/rate 25000
/snaps 30
/cl_maxpackets 60
This will give to the fastest smoothest game, you want your /rate to be at least 25000, and snaps at least 30 espeically on the 1.29pr.:rolleyes:
hello:
i play delta force land worrior, im not sure if it will help with cs or ut. but thought i would share.
MTU = 1500

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 999984

also you talked about a script? what does it do and where i can i get more info on it.
thanks
banker i have included my e-mailaddy.
also my system - 500 hrz 384ram bone stock dell

My god your RWIN is friggin' huge! That can't be healthy :p
anyone know if lowering your MTU will help ping with online gamming???

MTU 1500
MSS 1460
When I'm gaming during low traffic times an RWIN of 256960 gives me ungodly speed, when the net is really slow I get better performance by lowering my RWIN to 51100. I'm currently looking for an inbetween RWIN that works so I don't have to switch them around. Give it a shot. I don't think changing MTU or MSS from the suggested values for your connection will help, but then again I'm still a rookie so I could be wrong.
