Hi,
New to this forum and was wondering if anyone has come across this problem... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Recently I have run into this problem while browsing the net:

I can be browsing fin and then all of a sudden I have no connection to the net. I get the screen cannot find page bla, bla, bla - detect network settings ?

I try running winipcfg and release all then renew all adapters - try and still no connection.

I try unplugging the modem and replugging it in - still no connection.

I have to reboot, and then get a connection but it only lasts for about an hour or so then have to repeat all over again.

All the lights on the modem are on - so thats not the problem.

In winipcfg the device settings are all ok.

Why do I have to keep rebooting the system to re-establish my internet conection.

Hope that's enough info for one of you gurus to help with my problem.

My system specs:
@Home
Windows 98 SE
IE 5.5 SP2
AMD Athlon T-Bird 900mhz (not overclocked)
256 PC 133 Ram
SurfBoard 4100 (Motorola) Modem
Lan Card
SMC1211 EZ Card PCI 10/100 ethernet card

Thanks in advance for your help

There may be a duplicate IP address out there. One way to check is to write down the IP address you get on your pc when you run winipcfg. Wait until you get kicked offline, then unplug your computer from the cable modem and immediately have someone connected to the internet try pinging your ip address. If they get a reply then your IP address is being used somewhere else on the network even though it is assigned to you. This may mean someone else has mistakenly setup your IP address static on their pc or they are stealing IP. Contact your cable provider and let them know what your problem is and what you found. If you get a timed out response then this may not be your problem.
