Hi I was wondering if any of you could help me with a problem ive been having with my cable since last thursday...

first ill give the specs of my computer

Dell 8100 pentium 4 1.3 ghz
Windows ME
128 megs rdram
40 gig hd
kingston ethernet card
Adelphia powerlink 2 way cable, with surfboard SB3100 modem

Now on to the problem, last thursday, my cable went down for about 30 mins to an hour.

Then it went back up, i was surfing internet pages fine, connecting to icq and AIM fine, sending and receiving files over icq just fine....

But when i tried to connect and refresh the won.net servers for halflife, i couldnt refresh them.

This also applies to when i tried to connect to Roger wilco, or when i tried to connect to Battle.net for Starcraft....

now i have been able to connect to battlenet, and halflife servers, twice since the cable went down, and i was only able to play for about 20 mins max before i got disconected....

I cant even Ping other IP Addy's through msdos prompt...

when i try to ping an IP, even one in my area. i get this error

"Transmit failed: error code 10050"

I also ran a scan on a ports, and it said all of the ports they scanned, were in stealth mode...

yet i had no firewall up, i made sure i turned it off before the test...

can anyone help me?

i'd appreciate any help i can get

i already called tech support

and the minute i mentioned games, he flipped out and was like "no sorry we dont support games of any kind, as long as you can go to webpages, and send emails, your not having a problem with our cable"

I would really appreciate any help i can get on this, thanks

I realize you need help, but I wouldn't put my IP address up for the "special people" to use against me at a later date. (Hackers and Crackers)

I'm wondering if someone else might not be using the IP that was issued to you. There are so many things that it could be, that I'm not sure where to start you out here. What Firewall are you using?

I think you should contact Kip Patterson on this and see if he might not have an idea. If he doesn't, possibly try this question in the Gaming Forum or post a link for this thread there.

ok i edited the message so no more ip lol

I was using zone alarm, the downloadable version.....

i was thinking of maybe doing a system restore?

maybe restoring my computer to a date when the cable was functioning lol

I don't think I'd do that, at least not at this point. If you shutdown ZA Altogether, do you still have the same deal happening? It just sounds, like from what your describing, as if your not getting an IP issued or one that is in use by someone else, even though that person isn't the actual issuee!

Just fixed it!

The weird thing was this blebs

zone alarm would be shut down, but for some reason, some of its security modifications were still running...

like i scannned my ports, with zone alarm shut down

and they were still in stealth mode, that confused me...

but i just uninstalled zone alarm completely

and now it is working

thanks for the help

Sounds most definately like a botched install of ZA. I would not run unprotected or without a firewall. Your computer is going to have a gazzillion reg keys still, for ZA. I would recommend that you go to www.zonelabs.com and get the instructions for removing it completely and then either reinstall it or go and get a copy of Sygate Personal firewall. I prefer ZA though. Hang on, I'll get you the link to the removal section for ZA.
