Just recently, I downloaded and installed a program called Accelerator 2000. It didn't take me long to see that instead of speeding up my system, it actually slowed me down. I quickly uninstalled and deleted it. Even after uninstalling and deleting this program, my system still seems slower than before I installed it. I have a Surfboard 4100 cable modem. Any ideas how I might improve this situation, if possible? Thanks in advance for your consideration.

What OS are you using? Some of the stuff out here alters the Winsock and that may or may not be the problem. I can't find anything on that particular program. If all else fails, start up in dos and type scanreg /restore and pick a date before the program was installed, if this is an option that is open to you.

I'm sorry. I should have included that info. I use Windows Me, and IE5.5. I appreciate your quick response. I can tell already that I'm going to like it here.:)

I don't suppose you have system restore enabled? Can you roll it back to a time before install of the program?

Sorry, lost my manors.

Welcome to Speedguide and sorry it took a little longer then usual to get back to you. I'm trying to cover a lot of territory this evening.

Think nothing of it! I can appreciate that you can get spread pretty thin with so many needing/wanting good advice. Still, it was nice of you to welcome me here, and Thank You for making this forum available. That being said, I'm pretty new to this game, and frankly, am embarrassed by my lack of knowledge of the computer world. I'm fairly up on general things (as I guess most beginners are), but crave more knowledge as I really, really enjoy tinkering with my PC, and improving it when possible. It is obvious that this Board has a wealth of info and knowledge, so please excuse me if/when I ask something that seems "minor" (for lack of a better word). I have a Dell Dimension 4100 (Win Me) that does have "System Restore" under Programs, Accessories, System Tools, but obviously have never used it. But, if that's what you recommend, I'll go for it. I do hope that it is a fairly simple procedure (for obvious reasons). :D

I haven't yet had the priviledge of playing with Win me! I know that the system restore feature, if enabled and you can roll back to a date before installing that program, will put you back to where you once were. Read any help file you need to within the OS to familiarize yourself with the procedure. I don't know if anyone else is checking this thread who has ME, but if so, can you please help lars out here a bit?

I have to leave for a while and won't be back till late this evening if it all tonight. Sorry, I can't stick around right now, but you should be alright if you just follow the documentation in the OS. ;)

So this feature will allow me to "Get Back to where I once belonged"? Hey, that sounds like a good song lyric (you older guys will remember).
