View Full Version : dropping dsl for now...whats the policy for restarting service
Right now I am in the process of dropping my swbell dsl
service. I have had service for 22 months and have no contract.
"IF" I decide later to have service do I have to sign another contract?
I am now at 11k feet to the service, there is a new service connect about a block from my home...will I be reconnected at 11k or will I get hooked up to the new service in my neighborhood?
thanks for any info

You'll have to ask SW Bell about the contract, but I'd guess that you will have to commit for a period of time.
When you say there is a "new service connect" near your house, do you mean some sort of remote switching box? If so, and your phone line gets switched over to it for some reason, then you may well not be able to get DSL in the future. There must be a copper connection from your house to the DSLAM, and the new connect may not have a local DSLAM< in whcih case you could be dead.

They hooked me up at 11k 2 yrs ago and said I was at the max connection distance. They told some people I knew that were 3 blocks away that they were too far and could not get service.
Since may all of these people now have dsl and the connect is on a street about 1 block from my home. I was just curious if they would leave me at the max distance or hook me up to the local connect that is closer.

Hard to say. I guess it would depend upon whether the phone cable that serves your house goes to the new box. If it doesn't, then getting it there would involve construction, and I'd guess that they would not do it.
