Hi people. I need a little help? I recently upgraded my cable connection from my cable providers basic home package of 500 kbps down / 250 kbps up, to their 1500 down / 500 up package.
The problem; the only noticeable increase in speed is my uploads, they’ve gone from 250 to around 485. My downloads are still lousy, around 400 to 500 kbps.
I’ve tried every RWIN that has been mentioned in this forum, with “No Change” in download speed. I’ve tried SpeedGuide’s recommended tweaks, and I’m also using Cablenut’s adjuster. I don’t know if my modem could be the culprit, it’s a 3Com U.S. robotics? My cable provider has said that they have a few other modems available; a Motorola and R.C.A., but they’re for the “new” customers, and that there isn’t anything wrong with my present modem. I know the problem isn’t my PC; it’s a Duron with 700
Mhz and 256 SDRAM, and I’m presently using I.E. 5.01 with Windows 98. If anyone could offer any suggestions to increase my download speed, it would be greatly appreciated? To tell you the truth I’m at wits end, and just about ready to throw the towel in.
Thanks for your time.

John

John, do you know what other Modem Models or model #'s they are offering to the "NEW" subscribers? I think they're just jerking you around!

The tweak looks fine, but did you change anything when you tried different NIC's? What were the other model numbers of the new modems and brands? I think I asked you before, but they don't have you running through a proxy do they?

Blebs, it's been awhile, how's it going, buddy?
I'll drop you an e-mail in the next day or so.

Monday morning, I'm going up to my cable providers home office and have it out with the head honcho, face to face.
No more telephone conversations.
Either my speed issue gets resolved, or they can pull the cable.
One way or the other, this is going to come to an end!

Talk to you soon.

i just want to make sure that none of the NIC settings got changed and is causing you the problem. I doubt that this is the case, but sometimes we overlook the simpliest things and feel pretty darn stupid when we do it.
I assume that your using the latest available drivers for your NIC? :)
