You do realize that every time you charge something you are giving your number out right? Not only that, you are giving your signature as well.

Every time you charge a meal, a movie, some clothes, etc. etc. you are giving your cc # and you signature (a hardcopy nontheless) to the people working the counter.

If you are paranoid about people stealing your #, you really can't charge anything. :)

Well, with my MBNA card at least, if I want to buy something online, I can download a little program from them that will create a new, temporary credit card number, and I can set how much money can be charged to that number, as well as how long the funds will be available. So then, if my credit card info DOES get compromised, whoever stole it can only use it up to the limit I set, and only until the date I set. And if you're smart, you'll set the limit something short, only a little longer than it should take the cmopany to charge the account, and only make as much credit available as you need for that purchase. And, if I recall correctly, I think once the number has been used once, it can only be used again by the same vendor, so employees who steal it can only use it at work, and outsiders can only use it there too. I'm sure other companies have something similar, look on their websites.

If anyone is worried about charging on the net, get an American Express card. Most online sites take them, and if u get ripped off, i.e. u dont get anything in the mail, they will cover u and give u back ur money. Its happened to me trying to by a cooling fan over the net, and they gave me back my money
