Is there any good registry software programs that really dig in deep to find waste?
I already have reg cleaner, but I would like something that I can really look inside for junk files.
Don't know if this will help you or not. I use 3 different ones, and between all 3, it is well done.

look in http://www.regedit.com
Yes, just type regedit in the Run dialog!
Then do a search of the treg for any instance of an app's name & delete all keys. That's the best way to clean a registry.
This list of Freeware Cleaners is in 2 sections .
Section 1 are the easiest to use .
Section 2 are for those who know what they should keep .
I use all the below cleaners , each one specialises in a different area .
Don't be supprised if you get a lot for removal . Take out of this information what ever
you feel comforable with .
Backup , backup , backup . I use this method .
http://www.pcnineoneone.com/howto/regback1.html
==============================
Section 1
Basic Cleaning .
1. Close all programs.
2. Hit Start-Find-Files or Folders. In the Named box, type
( or copy & paste ) the following exactly as it appears
(but it is not case-sensitive), and without any spaces:
*.tmp,~*.* or *.tmp,~*.*,*.chk
Make sure the Look-In box contains the hard drive from which your
applications run, usually (C:). Make sure the Include Subfolders
checkbox is checked. Hit Find Now.
When the little magnifying glass stops, searching has completed and
you can see how many files were found at the bottom of the dialog box.
If you feel bad about having so many, the author's record on a user's
PC is 6,600, though less than a hundred is typical. On your keyboard,
hold your Ctrl key down and hit the letter "a"; this selects all the
files that were found. Hit your delete key and say Yes when asked if
you want to send all the files to the recycle bin.
If you are asked if you are sure you want to delete a file because it
is a program that you will not be able to run again, or because it is
a read-only file, say Yes. Program files do not start with a squiggly
line (~ it's called a tilde - till-duh), nor do they end with "tmp."
If you are unable to delete some of the files, hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete and
End Task on everything in the list EXCEPT Explorer and Systray.
(It is okay to End Task on your antivirus software because you will be
rebooting your PC, which should restart your antivirus software again.)
Once you have ended all of the tasks (except Explorer and Systray),
try selecting (ctrl-a) and deleting the files again. It is usually
okay to leave several files in there if you are unable to delete them.
Close the Find Files window when you are done.
3. Empty your recycle bin. Shortcut: right-click the recycle bin and
hit Empty Recycle Bin.

EasyCleaner from , http://www.saunalahti.fi/tonihele
Patch for ME , http://newlife-win98.server101.com/easycleaner_info.htm
I have a program that uses a Visual Basic file ( msvbvm60.dll\3 ) .
The last part of this file , \3 , is called an numeric tail .
EasyCleaner removes this comlete file , because of the tail , unless it is told not to .
Here is how to do that .
Open EasyCleaner ,Clean registry & in Skip ( under Select all ) delete Norton ( if you
don't use it ) & type in C:\Windows\system\msvbvm60.dll\3
Even if you don't have this particular file , it won't hurt to put it in Skip , as you may
get it in the future .
Should you see EasyCleaner list another file with a numeric tail ( or any file like
Norton , that you want to keep ) for removal , put a comma after what you have already
in Skip .
Don't use EasyCleaner Duplicate files unless you really know what your doing .
Below is a safer way of removing duplicate files .
http://members.cnx.net/reboot
http://206.161.202.65/forum/showthread.php?threadid=8547
99 % of the duplicates are in two folders.
c:\windows\sysbckup and c:\windows\options\cabs
You can delete everything from sysbckup except the 5 or more files with a
.cab extention (they're your registry backups for scanreg) and a
couple of others that it won't let you .
If you've got the original Windows CD or floppies with the cab files on ( not the restore
version ) , I personally delete the whole options\cabs folder completely .
---------------
Microsoft's RegClean , very conservative .

---------------
OleClean ( tick all the boxes in Options ) from ,

----------------
RegCleaner ( freeware )
http://www.vtoy.fi/jv16/index.shtml
I use it this way .
Click on Tools > Registry Cleanup > Do them All .
This removes & places them in backup for removal in a couple of weeks , when you
are sure they are not required .

Also I do this ,

( click on Tech Download’s )
Unload DLL
Forces Windows to remove DLL files from memory when done .

I've used Easy Desk software, which has some heavy duty registry cleaning and editing packages.
